Refresh Detroit Social Media Panel

THIS IS A REPOST WRITTEN BY NICK DENARDIS

Refresh Detroit held a Social Media Panel Discussion on January 21, 2009 that I was lucky enough to be part of. It was the first time I had been part of a panel discussion and it was a great experience.

The panel consisted of (from left to right):

This free event took place at Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor, Michigan. There was ~30 people who attended from various industries, they came to get a better understanding of social media and how they can leverage it.

The questions brought out not only the direction and how to for beginners but also the best practices and case studies of the advanced users in the social media field.

On the Refresh Detroit Web site they posted the summary of resources and references.

In addition the entire panel was recorded and is available below.

Biznet Social Media Training Event Recap

Wow.
(That’s the best way to start this blog post.)

The Biznet Social Media Training event was a great success. We had nearly 150 register, but had to take names for an additional session after 100 due to fire codes. There were a bunch of familiar faces there; if you were there and would like to leave a link to your site in the comments, you’re welcome to do so.)

Biznet Social Media Training

I was really impressed with the turn out–and the way the Biznet team pulled together to make the event so successful! (Dave Biskner and I were texting after the event and, in his words, “Yeah, no kidding, right!? Best. Team. Ever!”

Unfortunately, we had a problem with the video podcast, but luckily have a couple shots up from the event. Check out Biznet photos on flickr (thanks to Mat)!

Social Media Training Event Preview

Kevin and I decided to give everyone a quick preview on what to expect for the Biznet Social Media Training event on January 7th. Check it out!

Biznet has partnered with Facility Matrix Group, Curve Detroit, and Herman Miller on The Greenwerks Project to help bring realistic sustainability to our future (particularly with the workplace).

From the site:

Our goal with the Greenwerks Project is to help businesses and professionals take action and make steps in the right direction. We’ll be sharing ideas, highlighting new products and sharing our experience with office environments, marketing and business.

Here’s what Greenwerks is:

  • a lens
  • a strategy
  • the longview
  • sustainability
  • progress
  • moving forward

The project launched last night with a debut party featuring the green office spaces of Facility Matrix Group and Curve Detroit. I was ultra impressed with their spaces, which included dry-erase paint, sustainable furniture options, and even a living wall! Each detail rocked–from the valet to the sliders! I apologize for the few photos; I’m sure Charlie Wollborg will post more soon!

Biznet in Social Media

Biznet is leveraging social media and continuing to build relationships with our target markets. As a small business, Biznet operates primarily in the Southeast Michigan area. To leverage our market we talk share our expertise in a social setting, which has lead to a fantastic network.

In fact, we moderate a Detroit Tweetups Facebook group and have hosted a hugely successful tweetup; pictured is @nevrus and @kasey22b from the event! (If you’re not already following us on Twitter, feel free to follow some of our team members (@shaunabiznet, @stevebiznet, @kevinbiznet, @davebiznet, @benbiznet, & @mpiccinato).)

Other businesses are reaching out for our help doing the same. Whether it be geo-targeting, demographic targeting, or whatever the identified market, we’re creating strategies to help maximize time spent and ROI. After the strategies are complete (which usually takes a few days), we launch profiles and content to help introduce the client to their new markets. Then the fun starts with maintainance–conversations light up, media flies everywhere, connections are made!

Social media was being leveraged prior to our business application. Originally, I met a few rockstars through twitter (@terrybean @charliecurve and @tomcurve). We all met up for lunch at a skevie taco joint when the conversation turned to my skills. That conversation turned into an interview with the Biznet team and soon after, I started!
